- Free stairlift quotes: said VAT relief “saves 20%”. Removing 20% VAT from a VAT-inclusive price takes off a sixth (about 16.7%), as our VAT relief guide already says. Corrected. The page also pointed readers to a “2026 Pricing Index”, a name we retired on 20 October; it now points to the UK Stairlift Price Tracker.

- Stairlift grants in Scotland: said councils pay “up to 80 per cent” of the eligible cost. The minimum grant is 80 per cent, rising to 100 per cent for people on certain benefits. Corrected.
- Stairlift grants in England: said the £30,000 maximum is set by the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996. It is set by the Disabled Facilities Grants (Maximum Amounts and Additional Purposes) (England) Order 2008, made under that Act. Corrected.
- Handicare review: said Handicare acquired Brooks in 1996, builds its lifts in Yorkshire, is publicly listed, and owns Companion. Handicare has been owned by Savaria Corporation since March 2021 and builds its UK lifts in Kingswinford; Brooks shares a controlling owner with Acorn; Companion is a sister brand under Savaria. Corrected, in line with our brand ownership map.
- Brooks review: gave 1973 as the founding year. Brooks Stairlifts Limited was incorporated on 11 February 1972. Corrected.
- Stannah review: gave a founding year we could not source and called Stannah the largest UK maker by volume, which no published figure supports. Both removed. The review also said Stannah does not sell direct and works through 28 regional dealers. Stannah sells direct, with its own engineers and service branches, and also works with a small number of accredited independent distributors. Rewritten throughout.
- Who owns the stairlift brands: listed Stannah as selling direct only. It also sells through a handful of accredited distributors in the UK and Ireland. Added.
- Otolift review: gave a 130 kg weight limit, where Otolift publishes 125 kg for its only current UK model, and described Otolift as family-owned without mentioning its investor, NPM Capital. Corrected.
- Stairlift companies: listed Handicare as “Handicare (Halton)”. Halton is an independent supplier that fits Handicare and other lifts, not part of Handicare. Corrected, and Halton added as its own row.
- VAT relief: said buyers who qualify “save 20%”. Removing 20% VAT takes one-sixth (about 16.7%) off a VAT-inclusive price, which is what the page’s own £3,000 to £2,500 example shows. Corrected, and the relief is now described as zero-rating.
- Editorial policy: called the Welsh grant the “Physical Adaptation Grant” (it is the Disabled Facilities Grant), and said we did not yet publish a pricing index with a stated method and that prices came partly from homeowners’ quotes. Our price figures come from the UK Stairlift Price Tracker, and reader-reported prices never go into its medians. Corrected.
- How Stairlift Costs makes money: said a quote request introduces you to one partner supplier, while the quote form says up to three. Corrected to match the form.
- Homepage and stairlift servicing: running-cost figures (servicing, electricity, call-outs and removal) did not match our running costs report. Aligned to it. The homepage also said our price dataset was maintained on our sister site; it is maintained here, in the UK Stairlift Price Tracker.
- Ageing in Place report: described the 73 August prices as coming from “17 brands”. Our count is 25 UK sellers; the brand labels in the dataset include combined and unbranded entries. Corrected.
