How We Review Stairlifts

How We Review Stairlifts

At Stairlift Costs, we are committed to providing independent, trustworthy reviews of stairlifts available in the UK. This page explains our review methodology so you can understand exactly how we arrive at our ratings and recommendations.

Our Promise

Every review on this site is independent. We are not owned by any stairlift manufacturer or supplier. Our ratings are based on a structured scoring framework, product testing, and verified user feedback.

Our Five-Category Scoring System

Each stairlift is scored across five categories, each weighted according to its importance to the typical buyer:

Review Scoring Categories
Category Weight What We Assess
Performance 25% Motor power, ride smoothness, speed, noise levels, reliability, and ability to handle the rated weight capacity consistently
Safety 25% Seatbelt quality, obstruction sensors, swivel lock mechanism, emergency stop, BS EN 81-40 compliance, and battery backup during power cuts
Comfort 20% Seat padding and dimensions, armrest design, footrest ergonomics, ease of controls, and mounting/dismounting experience
Value 15% Purchase price relative to features, included warranty terms, installation costs, and long-term running expenses
After-Sales 15% Service network coverage, engineer response times, spare parts availability, warranty claims process, and customer support quality

Scoring Scale

What Our Scores Mean
Score Rating Meaning
9.0 – 10.0 Outstanding Exceptional in almost every area. Our highest recommendation.
8.0 – 8.9 Very Good Excellent choice with minor areas for improvement.
7.0 – 7.9 Good Solid product that does the job well for most users.
6.0 – 6.9 Adequate Functional but with notable compromises. Consider alternatives.
Below 6.0 Below Standard Significant issues. We would not recommend at current pricing.

Our Review Process

Each review follows a structured process to ensure consistency and fairness:

Review Process Steps

2. Hands-on assessment Test ride quality, comfort, controls, and safety features 2-3 hours

5. Peer review Second reviewer checks scores and assessments 1 day
6. Publication Publish review with clear methodology disclosure 1 day
7. Updates Revisit scores when models change or new data emerges Quarterly

Editorial Independence

Our editorial team operates independently from our commercial partnerships. When we link to a supplier or recommend a product, this does not influence our review scores. Any affiliate relationships are clearly disclosed in our disclaimer.

We update our reviews at least quarterly, or sooner when manufacturers release significant updates to their products. All reviews carry a “last updated” date so you know how current the information is.

How We Handle User Feedback

User feedback is an important part of our review process. We gather feedback through our contact form, social media, and verified review platforms. We weight user feedback alongside our own assessments, adjusting scores where consistent patterns emerge.

If you own a stairlift and would like to share your experience, please contact us. Your feedback helps other buyers make better decisions.
