In one paragraph

This page explains how the content on Stairlift Costs UK is created, reviewed and maintained. It exists so that readers, quality reviewers and regulators can see exactly how editorial decisions are made and how we separate commercial interests from the advice we publish.

Who is responsible for content

Stairlift Costs UK is operated by Whito Ltd (company number 10918465, registered at 20-22 Wenlock Road, London N1 7GU). Jacob Whitmore is the site owner and managing editor. He is responsible for all editorial decisions, content accuracy and compliance with advertising standards.

Content is researched and written by Jacob with input from industry sources including supplier technical documentation, published manufacturer specifications, local authority guidance on Disabled Facilities Grants, and real homeowner experiences shared directly with us.

We do not currently employ a named occupational therapist or registered installer as a permanent editorial reviewer. Where our content touches clinical suitability, mobility assessment or installation safety, we state clearly that readers should consult a qualified professional before making decisions. We are actively working to bring credentialed reviewers onto our editorial team and will update this page when that happens.

How content is created

Each piece of content follows a consistent process. We identify the topic based on the questions real stairlift buyers ask, typically drawn from search data, supplier conversations and reader correspondence. We research the topic using published manufacturer data, local authority policy documents, HMRC and government guidance (for grants and VAT), and direct input from suppliers and homeowners. We write the content in plain language, aiming for accuracy over persuasion. Every pricing claim is sourced from supplier rate cards, published dealer price lists, or real quotes shared by homeowners.

We do not publish content that has been written, paid for or pre-approved by any supplier or commercial partner. No supplier has a right of review over our editorial content before publication.

How pricing information is compiled

The price ranges published across this site are compiled from supplier rate cards, published dealer price lists and real quotes shared by homeowners who have contacted us. They are intended as general guides, not firm quotations. We do not yet publish a formal pricing index with a declared sample size and methodology, though this is planned. Until that exists, all price ranges carry a disclaimer stating their basis and limitations. Your actual price will depend on your staircase configuration, the model you choose, your location and whether you qualify for zero-rate VAT.

How we handle grants and regulatory content

Our grants content is segmented by UK jurisdiction because the Disabled Facilities Grant in England, the Scheme of Assistance in Scotland, the Physical Adaptation Grant in Wales and the Housing Executive grant in Northern Ireland are all different programmes with different eligibility criteria, means tests and application processes. We source this content from official government and local authority publications and review it quarterly. Where means-test thresholds or grant caps change, we update the relevant page within 30 days of the change taking effect.

VAT and finance information is published in accordance with HMRC VAT Notice 701/7 and the CAP Code. We do not offer financial advice. Where finance or payment plans are mentioned, we direct readers to their supplier for the representative APR and full terms.

Review and update cycle

All content is reviewed on a rolling quarterly cycle. The review checks for pricing accuracy against current supplier data, regulatory changes affecting grants or VAT, broken links and outdated references, and factual errors reported by readers. Content that fails the review is either updated or removed. Pages that no longer serve a useful purpose are consolidated into stronger pages with 301 redirects so that no reader lands on a dead end.

Corrections and complaints

If you find an error on this site, please contact us through our contact page. We aim to acknowledge corrections within two working days and to publish a fix within five working days. If a correction materially changes the advice on a page, we add a visible correction note at the top of the page with the date of the change.

If you believe any content on this site breaches the CAP Code, the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, or any other applicable standard, you may report it to the Advertising Standards Authority or contact us directly.

Editorial independence

Our commercial model is commission on completed sales. This means we are only paid when a reader contacts a supplier through our site and then goes on to purchase a stairlift. Full details are on our affiliate disclosure page. This commercial relationship does not influence which products we recommend, which suppliers we feature, or the price ranges we publish. No supplier can pay to appear higher in our content, to have negative information removed, or to have editorial copy approved before publication.

Where we believe a reader would be better served by a product we do not monetise (for example a through-floor lift instead of a curved stairlift, or a council-funded adaptation instead of a private purchase), we say so. Our obligation is to the reader, not to the supplier.
