Stairlift Costs’ UK Stairlift Price Tracker puts the median published price of a new UK stairlift at £2,800 (straight £1,995, curved £4,395), from 73 prices published by 25 UK sellers and captured 20 August 2026.
Published prices for new stairlifts ran from £1,350 to £10,000. Reconditioned stairlifts were cheaper, with a median of £1,595 across 56 published prices. For a reconditioned straight lift the median was £1,395.
The same lift, £1,300 apart
The same model can cost very different amounts depending on who sells it. The Handicare Freecurve, a curved stairlift, was advertised from £3,995 by one dealer, from £4,500 by a second and at £5,295 by a third. That is a £1,300 gap for the same lift. More same-model gaps are on our page about negotiating a stairlift price.
Few manufacturers publish a price
Of the manufacturer websites the tracker checked, TK Home Solutions was the only one listing model-level prices. Most buyers first see a number when a salesperson quotes one in their home.
Where the £3,867 figure comes from
The tracker also traces a figure that is often repeated online. A £3,867 “average stairlift price” comes from a Which? survey of what its members said they paid, with fieldwork carried out in December 2022. It is a different measure from the tracker’s, which records what sellers publish now.
What we said
Jacob Whitmore, managing editor of Stairlift Costs, said:
“Most stairlift makers do not put a price on their website. That means families go into a home visit with nothing to compare the quote against. We collected every price UK sellers publish and took the middle one. £2,800 is a fair starting point for a new lift. If a quote for a straight stairlift comes in well above £1,995, ask what is driving it.”
“The same curved lift was advertised at prices £1,300 apart. Getting a second quote costs nothing, and it is the quickest way to find out which side of that gap you are on.”
Notes to editors
- The 73 prices cover new stairlift units only: straight, curved, outdoor, heavy-duty and perch lifts, priced as a one-off purchase. They exclude rental, buy-back offers and installation extras. All were captured from 25 UK sellers’ own websites on 20 August 2026.
- Of the 73 prices, 34 are “from” prices and 19 do not say whether fitting is included. VAT treatment varies by seller. Where a seller gave a range, the upper figure was used. Using the midpoint gives the same £2,800 median.
- Twelve primary sources were re-checked on 31 August 2026, and no published figure had changed.
- The tracker holds 290 sourced datapoints in total, including public-sector contract prices, published benchmarks and reported buyer quotes. The full dataset is free to download as a CSV file.
- How the figures were collected and graded: methodology. Every price, its source and its capture date: UK Stairlift Price Tracker.
- The Which? figure of £3,867 is from a Which? member survey with fieldwork in December 2022.
