Who makes Companion stairlifts?
Companion and Handicare are sister brands. Both belong to Savaria Corporation, the Canadian group that completed its purchase of Handicare Group AB in March 2021 and also owns Minivator, Freelift, Sterling and Garaventa. Companion handles sales, installation and aftercare, and the models it lists are Handicare models.
The practical consequence is parts and servicing. A Companion lift is a Handicare lift by model name, so it sits inside the wider Savaria network rather than depending on one small supplier.
A note on the company behind the brand
Companion Stairlifts Limited, company number 04728243, was dissolved on 6 January 2026 by voluntary strike-off with accounts filed, which reads as a group tidy-up rather than a failure. The website was still trading in August 2026 and still quotes that company number. Which legal entity now stands behind a Companion contract is not something the public record settles, so ask for it in writing, together with who honours the warranty. Checked 28 August 2026.

Companion’s reputation is built on service and specification rather than a one-off design:
- Higher capacity and steeper climb. Up to 21 stone and a 56-degree climb angle put it ahead of several mainstream rivals, useful for heavier users or steeper staircases.
- Comfort and adjustability. A highly adjustable, ergonomically shaped seat with lumbar support, tailored seat and footrest options, and a choice of colours and upholstery.
- Safety. Around ten safety sensors that stop the lift if an obstruction is detected, seatbelt, swivel seat, and an easy paddle control whose position can be customised.
- Convenience. A swappable easy-grip armrest, remote controls to park or call the lift, and an optional power-hinged track that folds away over a doorway.

Ranges change without notice, the same lift is often badged differently by different sellers, and a figure on a dealer page can differ from the maker’s own. Exact prices depend on your staircase and options, and because Companion offers a price-match promise, it is still worth getting two or three quotes to set a benchmark. If you have a long-term illness or disability, the lift and installation should be zero-rated for VAT, saving 20%.

Warranty, servicing and running costs
Warranty terms come from Companion and Handicare, typically one to two years, often extendable. Service annually, usually £100 to £200.
